Deadlock because of faulty ethernet cable

Problem: Deadlock causes game crash. Solution: Exchange ethernet cable between PC and router. In my case this solution solved the deadlock crashes. At first, I thought deadlocks are a pure software issue. I had no problems in Keepers league (version 3.27), but with the release of Mirage (3.28) deadlocks occurred frequently: day 1, first character, enter Lioneye's Watch, talk to Bestel, deadlock detected, game crashed. Later deadlocks occurred in maps, hideout, delve, kingsmarch, in heavy load situations (blight + beyond), when the game was paused or during a loading screen. There was no pattern. I tried some solutions mentioned here, like let windows manage pagefile.sys, run packcheck.exe, etc. But these did not solve the deadlock problem in my case. I can only speculate why the ethernet cable was the problem. Maybe GGG introduced a less error-tolerant handling of ip packets together with version 3.28. Most likely a faulty ethernet cable is not the cause of a deadlock for most of the other players, but perhaps for some. When the network connection can play a role in a deadlock, it could also help to switch from WLAN to a (fully functional) ethernet cable. Last bumped on May 12, 2026, 12:29:59 PM
