With 1.0 upcoming, can we try to focus on reducing the games GB size before launch?

Hello GGG.

As much as I love playing the game, it's just simply not feasible to have this game installed at all times with its current size as it just takes up way too much disk space. The games currently at around ~130GB which is already insane, and with the next patch I only expect this to get larger.

If 1.0 is going to be adding the rest of the Acts, and the patch is expected to be just as large as the next one, I would not be surprised if new or returning players who want to play the game would literally be unable to due to the absurd disk space requirement.

Can we try to put some focus on reducing the size of the game for the 1.0 main release?

Thanks.

Final Version Optimization +1
+1 Make devs great again

We used to have games like gta 5 running on a freaking PS3 with 512mb of ram and taking only 20gb of storage lol

D4 with 2 expansions and support to multiple languages (including audio which takes a lot of space) take less than 100gb of storage, my current D4 folder with two different languages installed is taking up 90GB to be more exact

And just to be clear this doesn’t really affect me that much, but things are getting absurdly expensive because of the state of the world rn, the ssd i bought in 2024 is double the price now..

There's nothing to optimize.

The game uses 4k textures despite the vast majority of players not running 4k. If they made the base texture size 2k instead of 4k it would shave roughly 40GB off the game size.

Textures, Models and Animations take up majority of space. Sometimes audio. Most people can barely tell the difference between 48 kH and 192 kH but the size difference is x4 as much.

In other words they designed the game with no care in the world about your drive space.

Bump because i think its importnt for games to be as optimized as possible in terms of File Size and runtime performance.

Im sure there are still gains to be made in these departments

Wouldn't it be nice...
Don't get lost by being so focused on the target that you forget to enjoy your surroundings.
Maybe they could do like the monster hunter games and make a high res texture pack a separate thing players can download that want to use it. That could be helpful for people struggling with space.

Although at the same time, even with this game being large. It's also holding true of most modern games these days. People should have been upgrading storage capacity the last few years. The 500gb drives so many ppl are using is just not enough anymore, time to upgrade. Tbh the time to upgrade was a few years ago when we could see the size of games steadily growing.

I'm glad I built my pc end of 2024 when ram and storage cost was still okayish. I don't envy anyone trying to upgrade now.

Pretty much this. Players are saying optimize the game but there's nothing to optimize on size.

They need to ship with 2k textures instead of 4k with the option to download 4k.

They started all this when NAND was cheap. It'll be a while longer before that goes back down. Most players won't even notice 2k Vs 4k anyways unless they face plant into a 45" OLED.

This is esp true now that DLSS is now an AA tech instead of up scaling tech.
