Question from the Sidelines.

Heya guys :)
Been watching the info about the new league and tried finding information on the One big question for me and found nothing, perhaps because nothing been said or cause I just haven't found it so figured I could ask you all! So, I have a pet peeve in these games against what I call semi-hardcore features they have been using, more exactly Sub-instances beeing lost on death Aswell as the portals in endgame beeing removed as you juice. Is this continuing as before or have they said anything about it? To me its such a big issue that it will decide if I choose to play PoE2 or not I refuse to touch the very few mechanics in PoE1 that works like this and for the whole game be "infiltrated" with it in PoE2 is for me a dealbreaker, made a long post with my reasons that drowned in the crowd so wont go over it here. If there are no changes I wish you all good luck and have fun in the new Season and I will continue to observe from the sidelines. //Stabbe Last edited by Stabbe2#7687 on May 12, 2026, 1:52:49 AM Last bumped on May 13, 2026, 9:41:14 AM

It would appear that you will be observing from the sidelines.

Yeah these things will pretty much never change based on current GGG sentiment. I wouldn't even bother checking back in if that's your deal breaker. Exp loss and portal loss are features the designers actively want in the game.

I wish there were more frequent well-designed semi-hardcore moments in the game.
The first time you encounter the Temple of the Vaal, it will close if you leave before you complete it. I wish GGG had the cojones to follow through with that design and then Temple could have some real weight to it. You go in w/ whatever you have on you, and you take only what you can carry. BUT IT'S WORTH IT! JUST DON'T DIE! Don't get lost by being so focused on the target that you forget to enjoy your surroundings.

The "respect my time" people who prefer that a game bend to their will rather than learn how to play it are usually very annoyed and vocal when they experience what's known as "constraints" so don't hold your breath.
The XP penalty is the only thing in the game that somewhat enforces sensible build-planning/playstyle by preventing dog-shit builds from bashing their heads into level 100 and they're already getting an extra map portal in 0.5 so I'd expect to see even more bad builds enabled lol. Who am I to say anything, I don't respect my time either.

Personally I would rather se even harsher punishments in XP or similar for dying. I have played PoE for years and after I stopped playing HC I def went abit hard to the other side of living off 6 portal defense for sure.
However for me what makes it such a turnoff its mostly events that happen very rarely and then you can loose them from a random Death or a DC at a bad moment like I think last league temple being lost from 1 death is to me just to much of a disappointment. I understand some ppl will see it as a weak/casual viewpoint and I guess it is but still I don't think I am alone. And for the difference of having 2 portals for a fully juiced map to 1 is huge for my mental if nothing else, it coming from an Ascendancy seems real odd. But yeah I have kind of accepted that I wont be playing PoE2 for now, it looks like a lot of fun but I just know I will get to angry when I loose that random event I see once a while. |

Yeah, probably not going to change.
What really irks me, is the fact that most players, and GGG themselves can't fathom a game in which you could enjoy both worlds. Yes, you can have your 1 life, 1 portal, balls stuck in a vice type of gameplay, but also a normal balanced, and more relaxed experience. I still have no idea why we can't just choose how we want to play? It's not even that hard or time consuming to code into the game. People that feel the need to coerce you to play their way are really annoying, whether they want easy or hard mode. And GGG seem more inclined to force you to do all this pseudo hardcore stuff, because they believe it has some sort of meaning. To their defense, I will give them one point: their game, their rules.....even if I'm disappointed with their "vision". |

I think they announced there's one extra portal when you juice to a certain amount, but that's about it.
