Experimenting with gems during campaign is too costly (in time)

Hi,

I'm a longtime PoE1 player and have been excited about PoE 2 since it was announced. I love experimenting with gems and builds, but that joy keeps getting hamstrung in PoE2, and I think I've figured out why.

Experimenting in PoE 2 means
1. Your build is worse (totally expected, if it wasn't hit/miss it wouldn't be experimenting)

2. You gain power more slowly as it takes longer to clear content (again, as expected)

3. Your maximum potential power is dragged down as well. (unlike in poe1)

Let me elaborate. Every time you cut a new gem that doesn't end up working for you (combo pieces aren't there yet, or you misread a status, or your gear isn't there yet), you've just thrown away some of your power from one of the sources that is explicitly limited (guaranteed uncut gem drops). Even if you've gotten far enough to trade for another gem, you're using your limited gold pool to fix your mistakes. Gold you'll need at endgame to trade for actual upgrades to your mapping build's power because there's no way your trial/error build will be able to farm its own upgrades. It's a death spiral of wasted effort and time to make up for the power lost due to having fun with the mechanics.

Of course, eventually you can regain the power that you've lost. But for the 30, 50, 60, levels it takes to catch up to where a prebuilt character is..... it feels bad man.

In the end, I propose simply a gem exchange where we can swap gems with other ones of the same color, tier, and weapon. My heart cannot resist your juicy gems, so my mind tells me not to play at all lest I be left to basic attack my way through act 3 once again. Just let me pick again.

yeah, it's so stupid to make ""early access""(which last 2y+ and developed for almost 7-8y on poe1 resources), and give low opportunity to players to actually do ea stuff to help obtain right statistics to progress balancing and bug fixes.

Sprint f0cking after dodge roll, i know how smart and skillful are main devs, and i 100% sure that they don't take active part in poe2 nowadays, they mostly are making promo and read from paper whole plans.
0% of such persons would make so awful game mechanics like that parry, sprint, etc
P.S.
This may be a contributing factor to why the average player is so slow and weak compared to the zoom zoom of streamers. They try stuff out.

Jonathan (or Mark?) talked about wanting to avoid noob traps like "you didn't pick life on the tree so you die". Well there are actually dozens that sound like this: "you picked Bone Shrapnel because it SOUNDED cool?? Noob. Your pinning ability is just going to kill stuff before you can explode it, and your whole kit does 30% less damage than it should because you're lacking a real Tier II support."

Could be that people (complaining for a friend, I swear) fighting bosses with 2 supports on their main ability, not because they lack game knowledge or skill, but because they don't HAVE a 3rd support due to an excess of whimsy and mirth.
