[Suggestion] Decoupling Left-Click Movement & Interaction for Better Control Precision
|
Hello GGG Team,
I am currently playing the PoE 2 Early Access on Steam. I deeply appreciate the mechanical depth and the visual upgrades of the game, and I fully intend to play and support this title long-term. However, I would like to provide some feedback regarding a significant pain point in the current mouse control scheme. 1. The Pain Point: Left-Click Input Conflicts Currently, the Left-Click logic feels rigid. When I assign a primary attack skill to the Left-Click, clicking on empty terrain forces the character to move. If I toggle "Always Attack Without Moving," the accidental movement stops, but it breaks natural interactions—the character can no longer smoothly pick up loot or click on NPCs. The forced coupling of "Combat Intent" and "Pathfinding" on a single button leads to frustrating misclicks during precise Boss encounters. 2. The Suggestion (Reference: Titan Quest 2) I suggest offering a way to decouple these functions. As a reference, Titan Quest 2 recently solved this by implementing a dedicated dropdown menu for "Mouse Left Input Behavior." They offer an option specifically for: "Skill or Interaction" (Excluding Movement). (See attached screenshot). If PoE 2 could implement a similar toggle, it would allow players to dedicate the Right-Click entirely to "Move Only", while the Left-Click strictly handles combat skills and looting—completely eliminating accidental pathfinding when clicking empty ground. ![]() 3. The Benefits of this Implementation • Enhanced Action Determinism: Players will have absolute control over their positioning without the engine's movement fallback interfering with combat. • Lower Barrier for MOBA/RTS Players: Millions of players from the MOBA and RTS communities are hardwired to the "Right-Click to Move, Left-Click to Act" muscle memory. Providing this setup would allow them to transition into PoE 2 effortlessly, without needing to "unlearn" years of mechanical habits. I really love the direction PoE 2 is taking, and I plan to spend thousands of hours in Wraeclast. Adding this layer of input customization would make the moment-to-moment gameplay feel instantly modern and responsive. Thank you for your time and for reading this feedback.
