Weapon "requirements" on spirit gems feel restrictive and hurt build creativity
|
Hello exiles, i would like to discuss spirit gems with weapon restrictions. While I understand weapon restrictions on weapon skills, say, lightning shot requires a Bow, slams requiring a mace, or grenades requiring a crossbow. All of these things make sense thematically and don't really restrict unnecessarily the Player's ability to create builds that they find interesting. My issue personally is when I want to throw on a spirit gem on a build for an interaction I want to explore, and the spirit gem has a weapon restriction. I don't think weapon restrictions make sense for spirit gems, unless it's like mirror shot where the aura is explicitly using the weapon. For example, wind Dancer requires a martial weapon, but nothing about its description shows any reason why only a martial character can use it. I think we could reduce the amount of skills which restrict weapon use and allow for more build creativity, without really changing all that much in the broad scheme of things.
If you are curious what prompted this, I wanted to try to use quillburst on wind Dancer to break armour for scavenged plating on my armour stacker, because I can't break armour normally on that build to utilize the 40% more armour (which is another gripe I have, but that's a different issue lol) Last bumped on Apr 23, 2026, 4:59:09 PM

Whilst your intentions are pure, there are some people whom would abuse heralds on spellcasters.
