Idea for atlas rework

I ate some spicy chili last week and this came to me in a dream, so if it seems strange and disjointed try applying dream logic to it.

Right now the largest problem with the atlas in poe2 is that it just goes on for "very big" distances and it is possible to brick it. Also towers and citadels and double towers.

So, for the core update they introduce the Master Cartographers. General Kirac, Eagon Caesarius, a man claiming to be Emperor Izaro, and a 4th mysterious figure

They show up and want to map the atlas and want to use you to do it.

To do this they want you to work through specific atlas pages which function as knockout cards, think astrolabes about as big as a quadrant of the atlas in POE1 or larger. When you complete a page you get a new page and can put in tablet(s) when you generate a new page in order to have all of the maps affected by the tablet(s). And when you get a new page you get a really cool fade in effect from an old timey atlas style of page to the new glorious 4k atlas style already in game, reference below.

Then as you progress through each of the atlases you find artifacts that let you examine different periods of wraeclast history, some of which are pure narrative creations and some are heavily inspired by existing history books like this one

You're also accruing power in the form of crafting recipes while you're doing that and after you've worked through each of the atlases far enough, there are new pinnacle bosses.

Now I have questions for y'all.

If that is the extent of the upcoming core atlas update, how do you feel?

Do you think the upcoming atlas update is going to be at least that cool?

You are confusing the atlas with the atlas passive tree. The latter is what has been confirmed for a rework, not the former.

As far as the core progression loop changes are concerned, they will most likely add some determinism to spawning the citadels, vide exarch/eater in poe1 etc.

I'm also expecting some more end game bosses and 'activities' added, but all based on the current delve style infinite atlas, since that seems to be the current vision, and it is going to take A LOT for them to give up on that idea.
