Poisonous Concoction of Bouncing not doing the advertised On Hit damage
|
I have north of 100 million DPS on paper with my PCoB build, but it feels like much less. I'm very familiar with the feel of DoT cap, as I hit it every league. This league (3.28) I leaned hard into the Hit DPS to get past what is in the modern game a really low DPS cap.
However, despite PoB and other similar tools online calculating the much higher DPS, in game and actual gameplay it feels much less. To me it feels just a bit higher than DoT cap - certainly not 100 million DPS, as it should. Someone else who plays the build said the same thing, which prompted me to look into it. After much testing and tweaking, I'm convinced the On Hit element of PCoB is bugged, or is in some way not behaving as intended. Could GGG take a look at it? please share your POB where you are getting those numbers
I am not seeing anywhere near that DPS when looking at your character and playing with the config to be accurate to a real game situation to note: the chaining is not instant so you can't just put all the projectiles into the count and call it a day... and part of that DPS will be culling DPS and dot DPS... so your not getting those numbers as hit DPS alone also as a side note... the dps will vary based off which flask it pulls charges from... a couple of your flasks are a bit weaker than the others |

" On a single target the chaining will be accurate though (after a ramp up). The attack speed/projectile speed is all part of the calculation within the tools. I've been playing PConc for years now, I'm very aware of the slightly delayed nature of the skill and poison in general. PBoC ramp up through the chaining is a given. All that is taken into account. All my flasks are of similar strength (over 5k recovery), I'm not sure what you mean. But also, even if you negate any flask charges at all the damage is still 75 million or so. The poison element of PBoC only goes up to the DoT cap which is 35.7 million DPS without Cull. It's maxed no matter what I do at this stage so it's almost not relevant. It's the On Hit damage that seems off. The proof of this is that another version of the build (which I just switched from) only uses a single life flask and 4 utility flasks. It feels exactly the same damage-wise, and is the same DPS in PoB and others. GGG have full access to both my account and the skill details. I'm happy to let them figure it out (if they get the time). I've been playing PConc a long time now - since 3.18. It's vibes because we can't know for certain without an in game DPS meter, but I'm fairly sure there's something not right. Last edited by t0lkien#7048 on Mar 30, 2026, 10:20:53 PM

Do these other builds also have 100% poison chance? Because you only had 55% chance when I imported last night. 40% base and 15% from a small passive.
You're stealing Master Toxicist which gives you two conditional buffs that are only applied when under a flask effect, which is the opposite conditional of your shrine belt that requires you to be under no flasks. Unless there's some weird interaction I'm not aware that lets you use both simultaneously (no clue, haven't used either), otherwise the jewels are not doing anything for your damage. This paper 100m dps is either in an actual bossing scenario where you don't have frenzy generation unless you've moved around for X seconds first for Avidity (or Adrenaline/Onslaught if no adds), or in a mapping setup where you don't have full wither stacks and projectile overlap ramp. I don't doubt your knowledge with PBoC and there might be some sort of bug. But we're just strangers on the internet trying to help you with your paper math. If you'd rather wait for a GGG response only, well.. good luck to your patience. Especially with no video, bug report number, or otherwise tangible data outside of a character with changing gear. |

" First, thankyou! I totally forgot Master Toxicist was conditional on flasks. I'm going to make some adjustments to this version based on that. But you will notice that the jewels don't affect PoB's DPS calculations so it's irrelevant for the purposes of the discussion. They are there for the mapping version BTW, to mitigate any non-obvious effects of a lower poison chance, and guarantee area pops with Asenath's + Unspeakable Gifts (very satisfying). Re. Poison Chance, the difference is also actually irrelevant - counterintuitively. It only applies to the DoT damage (the rest is flat chaos), and I'm at DoT cap easily with even less chance. However, I also use double corrupted Snakebite gloves which give the build 100% chance to poison and it feels exactly the same damage-wise. I've A/B-ed many times. Frenzy charges maintain after the first few seconds, so the period of time they aren't up is negligible. I have 37 seconds duration or something, which resets every time one is generated, so it's essentially permanent. Viva la Deadeye. The other conditionals you pointed out are true, but they are true regardless. I'm currently running the mapping version, but the bossing version is almost identical damage-wise. As I said, this is vibes, and I could be wrong. But it's vibes based on thousands of hours of gameplay with PConc. And it was vibes that discovered the DoT cap when no one knew it existed i.e. it's not a bad metric. The only way to know for sure is to look at the code (over to you GGG!): (https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/t5ptdq/bug_poison_dps_have_cap_info_inside/).
