Automation Support + Annihilation's Approach not working

heya,

if I socket automation into the annihilation's approach boots, it does not support the granted skill "approaching flames", despite it being an instant spell with a cooldown.

is this intended behaviour? because it is a skill granted by an item instead of a gem? or an actual bug?
