Viper Strike of the Mamba does not inflict poison with Perfect Agony

I have 100% crit and hit chance yet around 50% of the time it fails to poison the enemy. Is it because my poison DPS exceeds the DOT cap on normal mobs?

Dot Cap aside, looking at possible other issues:
Ignoring AG gear that I can't see, your crit cap is conditional. If Elusive is off, you lose some crit. If the enemy takes any damage from the 3 minions (no longer full life), you lose some crit. If Ice Golem dies, you lose some crit and hit cap. If all 3 conditions failed, 84% crit and 95% hit. Next issue is pre-poisoned enemy. Having 3 minions, if any of them poison the enemy before you do, you can't inflict a poison on the enemy. This goes for Flame Dash as well that has some added chaos (from ring) and generic poison chance. I'm also going to assume no map mods interfering. Reduced aura reduces Precision, less accuracy is reduced accuracy cap, the obvious avoid poison mod, giving enemies chance to block attack.. all boosted further if map explicit scaling, etc. If the issue is only related to overflow dot cap, I don't see that changing any time soon sadly. They've known about dot cap for years now and its a technical limitation that requires fully changing the damage formula. And that was many, many years ago. I know there's thousands of Mamba and other DoT players that reach uber DoT cap, but not too many report overflow issues (aside from the one new totem build recently which still shocks me). Which is why I'm semi-leaning towards one of the other issues first before overflow. But up to you if you want to dig into one of those deeper or wait for GGG to investigate. If you'd rather wait for GGG, would recommend bug report number and another video like your Harby issue a few years ago. |

Thank you for the reply but I have confirmed that its a DOT DPS cap issue. After changing my gems around and using Greater Ancestral Call instead I reliable poison 100% of the time again when I drop below the DOT DPS cap (down to around 25m).
Thank you very much for pointing out these possible issues, but those weren’t the cause. Also thank you for your time helping and writing this all up. So I guess I have to be aware of this till they fix this..... which I guess they wont anytime soon. EDIT: How I confirmed: I removed my 20/20 Swift Affliction and Void Manipulation gems and then voala, I was poisoning enemies 100% of the time again. " dot DPS cap is a technical limitation... so going over can cause it to overflow... thus doing no damage(and no damage ailments are purged) so its unlikely that behavior will ever be changed. just be attentive if your nearing/getting above dot cap to start focusing on defense, speed or utility. |

" With this I have to disagree. This needs to be fixed. One moment I was running maps etc... the next moment after some changes and gear/gems I was like what the hell? Why am I not doing any damage? " the game uses a 32-bit signed integer to store total damage per minute for dots... there is no real fixing it as it is a technical limitation. |
