'Lose mana per enemy killed' is triggering when minions kill things via annihilation support
|
Title. The explosions from annihilation are costing mana when they kill things even when the source of the kill is the minions. This also makes me suspect the explosions are not correctly inheriting minion stats.

I have been almost to [mostly] confirm on-hit effects are not being mis-attributed by experimenting with a curse on hit ring. So presumably damage wont be reflected, however I am still fairly certain the explosions are not being modified by minion damage modifiers. That the actual kills are being attributed to the player is the core issue that prompted this post and got me experimenting.

Not a bug, sounds like the enemies are killed by minion's DoT's and those are attributed to the player. So when they roll fire explode and have chance to ignite (Flammability or some other source), if the enemy dies to the ignite, the player gets the credit for the kill and trigger any on kill effects.
They have been igniting this whole time, but for much smaller amounts. The base damage of Annihilation is going to be much higher if procced on an enemy with high life, thus bigger ignites and more likely to kill enemies to the DoT damage instead of the minion hit damage. |

I tested your proposed explanation by linking elemental focus with my minion preventing them from igniting, and deaths caused by the annihilation pops were still triggering the 'lose mana per enemy killed.'
As an aside, the mechanic you brought up also seems like it should be considered a bug. If a minion is the source of a dot, then it was the minion that landed the kill. |

Just a bump since this was not addressed in the last patch.

Regarding DoT kills being attributed to you, regardless of the source of the DoT, technically it is a bug, or rather a technical limitation. But it has been known and unfixed for so long that it can be considered a feature. In many cases it works in your favor.

I find it rather amusing how often things are simply left unaddressed by the devs. Another example of that which i find rather annoying is the 'placeholder' art for the top tier gear added over a year ago still being used. Paladin boots, for example, deserve their own inventory icon, and would be such a simple addition even I could whip up all the art required in a day.
Anyway, just a bump because this issue was not addressed in the last patch. I don't want to exploit this interaction because A) it would feel dirty, and B) I don't want to invest into something that should be fixed. But being able to trigger 'on kill' effects via minions definitely has some potential for abuse. |
