Potential Performance Solution
|
I have previously experienced a lot of stuttering and poor frame performance/CPU lag during chaotic moments (erupting abyss, lots of corpses, shrines/ground effects, etc.). I tried almost every single graphic combination, and even found that restarting my PC would help in some scenarios, but nothing really eliminated HUGE FPS drops - and I mean I would sometimes go into legitimate slideshow territory, with less than 1 FPS, actually unplayable.
What I have done to fix it, and maybe it will help others: Do not use Vulkan renderer. Switch to DX12. All of my problems have vanished, and that's not hyperbole. All of them. I played on Vulkan in PoE1 ever since it was an option, and in PoE2 ever since 0.1 because I felt the performance was better than DX12. This is no longer the case. My Specs: CPU: 5800X3D GPU: 7800XT 16GB RAM: 32GB Resolution: 3440x1440 OS: Ubuntu 25.10 Platform: Steam (using Proton translation so I can play on Ubuntu) - I keep every graphical option on default where a default is specified. - NIS, no upscaling - Sharpness as low as it goes - 16x Anisotropic filtering - No dynamic culling - No dynamic resolution I will fluctuate between 60-120FPS, and there is no stuttering anymore. It's not like there isn't ANY performance drops, but it now stays in a playable range. I do not experience anything close to slideshows anymore. There has been one instance where a monster faded in like magic upon entering a map soon after I switched from Vulkan to DX12. Haven't seen it happen twice. Maybe this will help someone else! Who am I to say anything, I don't respect my time either. Last bumped on Mar 18, 2026, 12:01:27 AM

sadly, but there is no universal solution for anyone. there are many threads that something works for some people , but that doesnt work for other people.
all we can do - experiment more and more. ofc people should know PC basics to be able to set up hardware and software properly etc. what helped for me for a certain amount is turning off undervolting CPU and GPU (14600k+3070ti). it has no problems in other games , but poe2 somehow had crushed here and there because of this. now i got MUCH less crashes, after i turned it off. ofc i have crushes , but it happens way less than before i also tried to change poe2 graphical settings, but that doesnt affect much on crashes. i maxed fps but there is not such setup for my system to avoid stutters or fps drops to 20-40 in massive fights. ps. vulcan doesnt work good for my system also. only dx12 Last edited by ungamer321#7175 on Mar 18, 2026, 12:02:22 AM
