Lore theory. We are the bad guys.

I kinda get the vibe that lore will talk about player in this league as a reason evil Djin was set free. Or that The time lord was the good guy. Same with Zana storyline, bit this is a little more obvoius.

Also perhaps Zana herself is the corruption spreading in PoE 2. That cute logo monster.

We are the pawns. Lore wise our characters are at best selfish pricks, and at worst pawns in different power plays between god like entities, cosmic horrors, etc.
Varashta might be evil though, and so might be the time lord. I feel like the whole thing is twisted game between two twisted djins. |

The players are tools. Zana is a time witch. Its like Sirus says when he says
Spoiler
he was trapped in the atlas for CENTURIES
Spoiler
Sirus and the other conquerors were also tools, and the players were the tools to remove those burgeoning obstacles from the atlas.
You can see proof of this very early in the history of the game, for example
Spoiler
Eternal Orbs were removed because the source of them was seized by something powerful on the atlas
Spoiler
ruthless difficulty is less under Zana's control as evidenced by the fact that Eternal Orbs drop there
Spoiler
ruthless difficulty is under the influence of some other possibly more powerful entity, possibly one of the outer eldritch entities which we haven't met yet. Whatever it is, it must be supremely powerful due to it being able to project a reality where Zana's influence on the Atlas is less absolute, like some sort of prism of reality that can see multiple timelines simultaneously

I kinda expect that all league "masters" are in fact final boss of that mechanic.

Every time the Delirious strange voice says "no one will remember you" I say "I'll give them no choice"
|
|
|
Every time Zorakh says: "All i need to do is wait" i say "do it in silecne".

" Perseverance is good but what he is referring to
Spoiler
is the fact that the timeline as you know it will reset and nobody will remember you when you wake up on the beach again, just like you've done an uncountable number of times before

That was literally the plot of the elderslayers expansion. Exiles who went mad with power from running maps in the atlas to much.
Pretty much every characters backstory is not so nice too |

Lore Theory. The game ends when you kill Dominus. Act 4 and beyond is a delirium.
