Tul ran away from the fight

While fighting It That Was Tul and It That Was Esh, I died in Tul's 2nd stage during the hailstorm. My character kept walking for a bit rather than the dying animation playing. When using a portal to get back into the fight (the portal being placed outside the arena), the fight started again (health bars showed), however Tul seems to have disappeared.
