"Jewel Fruit" - PoE2 Fan League Mechanic
|
Hi! I made a fan league mechanic a little while back, and I decided to polish up the best of the ideas and put them into a site!
[Removed by Support] Here's the link! But in case you don't wanna click it, here's a collection of screenshots I took from the page instead. My design thoughts will be posted at the bottom of the page, but they can also be found on the webpage. Please let me know what you think! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My Design Philosophy (look away if you're allergic to reading) Most Unique Items in PoE2 are contentious. Aside from Chase Uniques, many contain cool unique Modifiers that are held back by low level bases, lack of useful generic Mods, and no supplementary nodes on the Passive Tree. I wanted to find some way to bring some use to these Uniques without going thru and overhauling each one individually. Plus, I'm keenly aware that not all Uniques are meant to be "endgame viable", and I wouldn't want to fly in the face of that. I threw around ideas for how this would be possible without making Chase Uniques the default choice. Eventually, I landed on the Jewel Fruit concept. Every source of power needs to cost something, and I believe that Skill Points are an even trade for freeing a Gear Slot and access to potentially game-changing Modifiers. Even in the case of powerful Uniques such as Headhunter, Sacred Flame, Palm of the Dreamer, etc, this is balanced by the separating of Modifiers into individual Notables. For example, it takes 14 Skill Points to travel to your first corner Jewel socket from Level 1, and from there you need at least 4 more Skill Points to gain access to whatever it is you're chasing. From there, you need ~13 more to get your next. That's ~27 Skill Points AND a Jewel Slot for the sake of beelining a powerful Notable. You're gaining raw Attributes while traveling, sure, but you're giving up any of the more immediate power that might come from the Passive Tree. Small Passives not being worth nearly as much is also an important aspect of balancing the trade of power. Many Uniques are made that much more powerful (or that much weaker) by the presence of generic bonuses to Attributes, Defenses, Resistances, etc. By not converting these as they are on the Item, I believe it levels the playing field a bit and encourages Players to make Jewel Fruit more for the sake of experimentation. Do I believe that this mechanic will upend stuff like The Adorned in the meta? Hell no, lol. I don't even believe that this mechanic is airtight; if all it takes is a couple uber-autistic Players to upend the delicate balancing of GGG as a company, then I shouldn't fool myself into thinking this thing is rock-solid. What I DO believe, however, is that Jewel Fruit as a concept is fun & interesting! Borrowing the power of Uniques otherwise abandoned by the community at large feels like a noble cause. I feel like it would open the door for a LOT more niche builds, while not destroying any semblance of balance in the late-game. Plus, I can already see the videos being made about stacking the effects of weird niche Uniques :). So, yeah! Those are my thoughts!
