Well of souls idea

I think the well of souls should be defended by a small abyss map.
With enemies mirroring the difficulty level of the players. Players should have to fight through the abyss to reach the well of souls on a small somewhat open map. Potentially without a death penalty for endgame players. This would make the well of souls a little more interesting instead of being able to teleport there or fighting against low level mobs. It would be a great area to benchmark your gear and feel what the gameplay is like on an equal playing ground.
