Orbs and Crafting

This might seem extreme at first for the economy, and would take time for the economy to adapt to.
Imagine giving the recombinator multiple use cases, combining its functions with the reforging bench, in addition to the following. Imagine having the ability to combine 10 orbs of transmutation for an orb of greater transmutation, also allowing this to be done with essence. potentially lowering the drop rate for greater orbs and essence at lower levels and not rewarding them at all during the Acts since players could combine them. it could be required to combine 2 orbs of transmutation to forge an orb of augmentation, and combining 2 orbs of augmentation to create a regal orb, etc. the recombinator could have multiple tabs for each of its use cases. players could also be required to sacrifice an orb alongside an essence to cause effect. In my experience- This would be greatly helpful during a first playthrough with a new character, due to not having greater orbs or item drops with desired qualities. as a side note,
for the economy i believe this would not be a terrible thing, considering items are traded for 1 exalted orb for example, that price seems very cheap for a single gamble, being able to trade greater orbs in the economy could help increase value for merchants and increase the sacrifice to buyers. there is a cutoff for new players to access buying options on the market if they are listed for greater orbs, because they haven't reached endgame yet. so you want me to click normal trans/augs instead since greaters/perfects would be removed?
im not doing that without an auto-loot pet that picks them for me -- you're effectively asking me to stop more often and pick up trash orbs to "cube" [x] hell no edit: to be clear I don't want pets either, players should have to make a decision on if they want to stop to pick something - not have, in this case, currency shoved in their pet's bag or whatever lol Last edited by tdonov5#2743 on Feb 9, 2026, 10:20:57 PM

i'm not suggesting to remove regals, alchemy, exalted and other orb drops, but allow the option to merge them for greater orbs.
The orbs could also stack to allow people to pick multiple up with 1 click. Being too lazy to pick up an orb seems like a first world endgame problem. Especially for player retention, the early campaign to craft decent gear, having access to greater orbs is important. |

best thing for healthy crafting is straight up sacrificing economy, its only solution for poe 2 success.
