Abyssal Lich Feels like a missed Opportunity
|
I'm more new to PoE, and started PoE2 around the time of the Abyssal League, first character was a witch and I spent majority of the game playing Chaos Lich. Later on the Abyssal Lich Ascendancy was discovered and after finding out about the Abyssals and seeing their cool ancient necromancer aesthetic found their lore and theme to be interesting.
Eventually I got the Abyssal Lich ascendancy and it's just super off theme. Abyssals Lich goes in the opposite direction of a necromancer, and only 1 passive/ability has anything to do with Abyssals (Steward of Kulemak) and it's uninteresting. The Infernalist feels like the Abyssal Lich done right, fully dedicated to the theme of the ascendancy while also being extremely potent. At most Abyssal Lich feels like it's supposed to be a Sorceress and not a Necromancer. When I saw there was an Abyssal themed ascendancy, I was expecting green sigils, abyssal creature(s) and more efficient minion usage. All it got was Steward of Kulemak and that thing shows up for 0.003 seconds to throw a weaker copy of a spell than you just used, takes a power charge and disappears. Still loving the game, I just find it disappointing that such a cool theme for an ascendancy just ended up being so generic in it's gameplay design. Last bumped on Feb 8, 2026, 11:32:18 AM
