[Einhar Suggestion] Let us meet Einhar in Riverbank when he gets introduced as a "tutorial guy"
|
I love Einhar, and I love it when characters gets introduced to the storyline in an immersive way. Just like how Alva and Expedition guys have a real meaningful place in the world in PoE2 acts. I have ideas how Einhar would fit in Act 1, and want to share them. My suggestion does not include Bestiary mechanics.
I don't know GGGs plans with Einhar. If he's coming, then Einhars age could either be presented as ageless, "laugh often live long", or just old. Regardless for PoE2 Einhar can evolve into a tactical slow hunter. He'll utilize traps more than crossbow now to make him differentiate from PoE1 mechanics and to align more with PoE2 design. ---- The suggestions Riverbank Our character just escaped the noose and washed ashore, stabbed a monster and moved towards Clearfell Encampment as instructed by the dead guy. Instead of a tutorial fog wall to make us pick up the item from the large chest, the wall could be replaced with Einhar blocking our way saying "I saw you Exile! That was a mighty jump you did before, but maybe you should pick that gift Einhar was about to give to you, lest the Wraeclast gets you." Talking to Einhar reveals that he was hunting for a great wolf, but he got distracted by us and by our unrelenting will to survive. It reminded him of an old friend of his and calls us a Survivor, so he put his own hunt on hold for ours. He'll then warn us that the Count will eventually come after us and that we should probably even prepare to face the Count himself to make a stop to him. His tip for surviving is to slay monsters and harvesting whatever source of power the monsters have for ourselves, no matter the cost for our sanity. The sources Einhar refers to are crafting orbs and unique monster rewards that give passive bonuses. Einhar says he will not go with us, for Einhar business is strictly with beasts only, and our hunt is our personal rite of passage business to being an Exile in Wraeclast. Ogham Manor Spoiler: Einhar business of hunting a great wolf was with the Count Greonor the whole time. After we defeat the count in the end of Act 1 and the Hooded Figure leaves, Einhar will come out of his hiding spot in the arena. He'll say "Great job Exile! You are a great Hunter. Einhar was waiting to make sure if you had died, Einhar would finish off the Count. Einhar was distracted by how we were growing in the hunt. Luckily Einhar was not needed, but Einhar thinks you are not falsely empowered by such things as luck. If we meet again, Einhar might even invite you to another hunt as a proper partner.". Turns out Einhar was playing 4D-chess. Bestiary mechanic Personally I don't see it relevant for Einhar to introduce players to the Bestiary mechanic in Act 1 in my suggestion, but I also don't see my suggestion as a blocker for introducing players to it in another act or in maps. I just see Einhar as a memorable character, who could be introduced early to the player as a way to have goals and to introduce the ruthlesness and power fantasy in Wraeclast. related post:
