runs great on linux. i suggest using the glorious egg roll version of proton over the steam proton. he makes some tweaks to proton which get better performance.

Playing on CachyOS, 0 issues. Full Linux noob myself that got it first time few days ago.
You install steam with 1 command, then install games in steam like usually, nothing else needed. If you yet to choose distro, i'd suggest CachyOS, it seems to be one of most popular distros, very fast, very light, just good. www.youtube.com/@PaintMasterPoE

" I agree for the most part, but if u're going into linux for the first time, be aware that CachyOS has rolling updates. That means sometimes stuff can break after updating and it might take some time before it gets fixed or u have to fix it urself. Doesn't happen often, but depending on how many tools u use it might be once per month like in my case :) Linux Mint doesn't have rolling updates iirc. That means once in a while there will be a big update with new kernel ect. that was thoroughly tested and u can be sure it works. Keep in mind the last time I used Mint was a year ago, so it might have changed since then. Anyway, PoE and PoE2 both run perfectly fine on Linux, some people even claim better than on windows. PoE2 0.4 Character: https://poe.ninja/poe2/profile/Sadaukar-2191/character/Sadaukar_Vaal https://poe.ninja/poe2/profile/Sadaukaria-3556/character/IcySadaukar_Vaal OS: CachyOS (Arch Linux btw. <3) Last edited by Sadaukar#2191 on Jan 23, 2026, 9:03:00 AM

" For sure, but atleast for PoE/Steam and stuff it shouldn't cause issues. Can't tell much because im very new to linux, but so far CachyOS was purely positive comparing to win10 i had before. Installing stuff is easy, usually single command in console. Most of software on github has installation explained, it's not hard to copypaste commands. It runs super fast, searching files is way faster than on windows, no bloat, no useless garbage. Even PoB and Trade Macro launches much faster on Linux, from moment of pressing keybind to open PoB and already using PoB it takes less than 1.5 second. Craziest part for me was how fast PC turns off, on windows it might take minute or even more from moment you press shut down to PC actually turning off. On linux its like 2-5 seconds, insane. www.youtube.com/@PaintMasterPoE

also cachyos here. super snappy OS. generally linux will feel snappier than windows. even my 10 year old macbook is snappier than windows. lol.
from my experience performance is negligibly better than windows on the high end. however the recent patch really improved the low end fps numbers. sometimes i would see big dips during busy fights. it's much more stable and closer to 95-100ish. in town it's a steady 180. so far the only thing i can't get working is path of WASD. yes there are generally multiple minor daily updates with cachy but so far none have broken anything. the cachy team claims to do a lot of testing before pushing to the repo however there is always that risk. come with the linux territory generally speaking. cachy has a built in roll back system. i assume pop and mint have a similar system. |

" Weird that WASD isnt working, must be some macbook specific thing, because mine works fine www.youtube.com/@PaintMasterPoE

Linux Bazzite (based on Fedora) allows you to play Path of Exile 2 via Steam and it works very good.
I tested it myself a few weaks ago on an old PC and it runs smooth as fuck (minus the bad game optimization and FPS drops that are caused by the game, not the OS ). POE 2 is not properly optimized, but it wroks really well on Linux Bazzite P.S: Bazzite comes with steam pre-installed, because Bazzite is made specifically for gamming and multi-media. But make sure in Steam for POE2 you choose "Proton" for the graphics driver Last edited by ArdeleanuG#2185 on Jan 23, 2026, 2:34:49 PM

path of WASD is an input layer which acts as an input layer simulating a controller for poe1. it takes some configuring but works under windows. what i mean is that the path of wasd app for poe1 doesn't work properly under cachyos. it runs under wine, but does not recognize any input at all.
as far as the macbook i have used geforce now and that runs great. " Last edited by Biggles747#1854 on Jan 23, 2026, 4:06:51 PM
