Green highlighted runic marker not blowing up in Expedition Logbooks

I've ran into this a few times now. The green highlighting circle sometimes just lies about what is going to be exploded. I've had runic splinter marker flags highlighted in green at the edge of a circle and then not blow up. The flag remains with no excavation chest spawning.

What's the point of providing visual feedback if that visual feedback is lying to the player? Come on
