Shockchain arrow cant chain to lightning rods it creates, or any lightning rods

I know its probably not a bug, because rods need beams to chain to them, and shockchain went from shooting beams to just secondary projectiles. But what the fuck is the point of the lightning rod then? What possible use could it have? Seems like such a random decision. Could it be the rod change was supposed to be made to shockchain version with beams, but then the current vesion rolled out, but the rod stayed? Because as it stands its absolutely and utterly useless.
