I love this game, but…

I will never be able to rationalize forcing the 1 portal system on SC players.
It is a hardcore mechanic. There is a game mode for that. SC players do not care about risk vs reward argument, and if we did, we would play hardcore. I love this game but as soon as I get into T15 juiced mapping, where you HAVE to use a 0 revive map for full benefits from tablets, you inevitably die to something. Sometimes it’s your fault, sometimes a server dc or bug. Either way, when that happens, instead of hopping back in the map, it’s log off for the night. So I love the game, and I think they are making great improvements over time, but while HC mechanics are forced on SC players, I see no reason to spend any money and support that philosophy. Happy Hunting, everyone. Last bumped on Jan 20, 2026, 10:54:36 AM

Yeah. I don't play SC exactly because I just don't get the thrill and the enjoyment from it.
I do concur that it sounds a bit much to me that the most rewarding content in the game is failed on a single death on SC. I think it'd be reasonable that everything has basically at least 1 extra attempt. So always 2 portals for the most juiced maps. Even as a HC player, if I crash or have an internet disconnection, it's a bit unfortunate since joining directly back to the map is a bit too risky, if I had a disconnect in combat. So I end up losing the portal by porting to hideout. Last edited by tzaeru#0912 on Jan 20, 2026, 9:01:17 AM

Thanks for your reply and understanding/sympathy from a HC player.
Maybe I’ll grow the balls to try HC one day where this argument doesn’t matter, lol |

I stopped supporting the game for the same reason.
1 portal per map tied to the fact that i have to use clunky combos that hold me in place against bosses with 1 hit mechanics while my movement is super slow, my visibility is zero because of skill combo effects and i have to focus more on generating power charges rather then the boss throgh weird mechanics like infusions just to be able to use my skills. I permanently lost 8 citadels so far. After each death i spent 2 days not playing just staring at Path of Building trying to figure out how to solve my power charge clunkyness or combo clunkyness to no longer die to 1 shots because i stood still 1 second to generate something my main skill won't attack without. |

" You do know that you don't have to use juiced T15s or higher boss difficulty to get the fragments, right? I usually use T15s with mods that don't make the boss more difficult (no extra life, no extra damage or crits, etc.) and max. +2 level of boss difficulty from the atlas and I often get 2 fragments from each fight. |

" None of the citadel bosses have an attack that kills in a single shot. Maybe if you run juiced maps with extra damage and have maxed the boss level, but even then, not fully sure if the numbers go high enough. " Visibility is overall still too poor. Very easy to miss ground effects and sometimes even boss telegraphs with this amount of stuff on the screen. " Yeah, personally I don't like the infusion system and pretty much don't play elemental spells due to it. Last edited by tzaeru#0912 on Jan 20, 2026, 9:34:01 AM

In order to get 2 fragments i do have to use 3 juiced tablets on citadels so it is 1 portal.
And what's the solution? Constantly respec all +1 boss difficulty back and forth between maps? And trust me i don't intend to use waystones with +49% monster life and triple more damage modifiers i have to spend 3 minutes just filtering garbage waystones that don't brick my build all have downsides like: - penetrate resitances - elemental weakness - more elemental damage - more damage - more critical damage - gain HP as ES (this is very annoying with bosses that have invulnerability phases) - temporal chains and chill ground - monsters steal charges (this completely bricks my build) I have 10k ES and Geonor literally 1 shoted me with full health from an ice spike i couldn't dodge in time because i was stuck generating my power charge rotation. Whenever this happens i'm done for the day. |

The trick with both citadel and anomaly maps is to run them with unID waystones. You get 6 revives. The rewards (or potential, where anomaly maps are concerned) outweigh what you might get from tablets.
But yeah, the forced no-revive bothers me a ton. If it's GGG's way of encouraging you to build extra tanky, it's working, because I have no incentive to play anything that isn't a 10k+ ES lich. What makes this experience even worse is the stupid "walk of shame" you have to do if you die and lose the map. It's empty, tablets can't be used, and you're forced to retry the map if you're trying to travel somewhere. A huge waste of time. If GGG got rid of that and just let us travel past the node on failure, it would feel a lot better. PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.
Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build! And the winds will cry / and many men will die / and all the waves will bow down / to the Loreley |
