Question About Long-Term Progression Leaderboards in Path of Exile 2 (Beyond Racing)
|
Hi everyone,
and hopefully someone from the dev team as well 👋 I wanted to ask a genuine question and start a constructive discussion around leaderboards in Path of Exile 2, specifically outside of racing. First, to be clear: I understand and respect racing as a competitive mode. However, racing inherently favors players who can no-life the game for days or weeks at a time. That’s fine for what racing is meant to be but it doesn’t really work as a long-term progression metric for the broader player base. What I’m asking about Is there any plan to implement a progression-based leaderboard system in PoE 2 one that: Is not tied to racing Rewards build mastery and progression, not just time availability Allows all players (including semi-casual players) to participate meaningfully What I mean by a “progression leaderboard” A good reference point would be Diablo 3’s Greater Rift leaderboards (and what Diablo 4 is currently trying to move toward): A scalable, push-style system (theoretical or practical “infinite” difficulty) Class-specific leaderboards Rankings that include more than just the top 1000 players. If I’m ranked 1,000,000th, I still want to see that Ability to compare yourself with: Friends Guilds / clans (if those exist or are planned) The wider community Why this matters A system like this would: Give long-term purpose to gearing and min-maxing Encourage experimenting with new builds Push players to reach max level and beyond Keep people invested between content updates Create natural, healthy competition without forcing racing An especially powerful feature would be snapshotting builds for ranked runs: Gear Gems Passive choices This lets players learn how certain content was cleared, not just who cleared it. The core question Is a system like this: Planned? Being considered? Intended for launch? Or something that will never be part of PoE 2? I’m asking because—personally—this kind of progression-based leaderboard is a major factor in whether I invest long-term into an ARPG. For me, having a clear, visible way to measure progression against myself and others is a huge motivator. Final note This post isn’t meant to complain, pressure, or annoy anyone. I genuinely love the direction PoE 2 is taking and I’m asking this because I want to commit to the game long-term. If anyone from the dev team can comment—now or in the future—I’d really appreciate the clarity. Thanks for reading, and thanks for all the work you’re putting into the game.
