Dodge Roll movement has been "janky" ever since Sprint was added to the game.

This is the second patch that I have complained about this, but ever since sprint was added to the game, dodge roll has had something happen with it that DID NOT happen with earlier iterations.
So, what I am specifically talking about, is if I am using WASD controls and dodge roll, I can begin my initial dodge roll in the direction of where my WASD directions want it to go, but upon IMMEDIATELY LEAVING DODGE ROLL, my character will SPRINT to the place where I dodge rolled from. To understand the frustration here, imagine I am dodge rolling AWAY from a boss mechanic - I am trying to avoid taking damage. Then as soon as I dodge, I run RIGHT BACK INTO THE MESS I TRIED TO DODGE. Its NOT FUN. It makes dodge roll a liability, which is a problem when you got unavoidable "red flash" mechanics. I haven't been able to confirm, but I THINK the issue is somewhere along the dodge roll, it loses WASD functionality and goes to mouse click. Case in point - what if I am dodge rolling away using WASD, and want to fire an attack on my mouse button as soon as I leave dodge roll? This worked JUST FINE prior to sprint being added. However, once sprint was added, I believe what is happening is I am dodge rolling, trying to attack out of the dodge roll, but instead because my mouse cursor is on the boss (even though my initial dodge roll and WASD controls are leading me AWAY from the boss), when I click to attack at the end of my dodge roll, it goes into click to move mode, and somehow begins a sprint animation to where the mouse cursor was out of the dodge roll. That is my working theory - however I can't reproduce it all the time. But when it does happen, it seems it happens 3-5 times in a row before it stops happening, so when it does kick in, it happens in bunches. VERY frustrating for a boss fight. Please look into it. Thank you. Last bumped on Jan 12, 2026, 7:39:47 PM

Did you enable "keep sprinting while moving"?
I have not had any issues with dodge-roll on anything but druid. Maybe watch how a streamer plays if you're using it in unintended ways that we can't relate to? |

+1 Dodge is terrible, attaching sprint to it made it even worse. Failing to release the button as fast as possible will also drag you into a stagger (the ending animation for sprint)... People constantly post about the issues with this implementation, but heads up asses can't see to read very well. We should all pitch in to buy GGG a belly button window.
Solution(s): Allow sprint to be bound to other key. Allow us to disable sprint completely. I'm convinced they make all design decisions based on the "can't be like PoE1" mentality, instead of making them because they are well thought out and tested.

I lost the count of times I died cause I roll and in the final part of the animation slows your PJ close to 0 movement speed and the boss slams in that window. and you are doomed you cant move for 0,2secs you are stuck on that slowing animation.
Now I try to never roll during bosses cause its risk instead of a mechanic to avoid damage xD The best use for rolling is avoiding packs during campaign. If you maintain space pressed you can direction your roll you know it right? Last edited by Rastei#2657 on Jan 12, 2026, 6:43:53 AM

This is exactly what killed me the other day. HC death to the stupidly easy Yama hologram mechanic. Rolled into the safe area then it immediately rolls back where I came from. It's got to be a bug. It's always a 180 degree reverse course. I also cannot reliably repeat it but it happens frequently.

People have complained about this since day 1 Sprint was added. One would think an issue with game's primary controls would be one of highest priorities to fix but nah. I wonder how do the development team themselves not see the problem with it sharing the button, do they not play the game themselves? Even if they don't or only play it in accordance to their grand design they should have noticed the avalanche of complaints when it was released. An optional separate keybind for dodge should have been one of the hotfixes for 0.3 already. |

Out of curiosity I rolled a new guy to try this out. Enabled and Disabled . It still does it with either option. Comes and goes in bunches randomly.

Since it seems like most of PoE's design decisions are based simply on "Diablo 2 did it that way so it's good" - Diablo 2 had a dedicated sprint button so please give us that.

All they need to do is have 2 separate key binds for dodge + run Dodge should be spacebar Run should be its own key either toggle on/off or hold down to run And wtf is stamina lol, totally non existent |
