Armour & Life

First of all, thank you GGG for your amazing work on POE2 - best game ever and continuing to evolve.

As a strictly HCSSF player, when I think of making a new build, I usually approach it from a defence-first angle, and 100% of the time any viable builds settle on having a substantial Energy Shield layer. I have heard in the interviews when Jonathan and Mark talk about the "tankiest build" still being an armour life one - but frankly it has a major issue in the fact that it cannot tank HUGE one-shots due to a lacking life pool.
Frankly, I think it is an absolute joke that a sorceress with 15k energy shield is better at taking a HUGE phys hit than a warrior with 40k armour - this really needs to change.

I think that there needs to be some sort of adjustment to make life builds more viable so that HC players don't feel the need to build ES 90% of the time. The continuous nerfs to life pool and life regeneration continue to baffle me. Why is GGG so scared of letting players have a large life pool?

Some potential solutions:
1. More life on tree. Maybe coming with armour/evasion nodes.
2. Overall buffs to life. If worried about this affecting ES tankiness then ES gear could give some inherent % life reduction to make up for the fact.
3. Keystone passives to trade in % of armour/evasion in exchange for increased % life.
4. Overhaul of armour formula at the high-armour end to allow for better damage mitigation.

I'm sure there are a lot of good options out there, and I think it is especially important to revisit this topic prior to the release of swords and axes.

Thank you

Well the premise is the problem here.

Thinking 40k armour on a warrior is even close to invested into it as a defense is just where your logic of the post falls down.

40k armour, is almost no investment at all on the tree. If I took every single armour node off of my tree at the moment. I would still be at

This is with every single node for % armour gone. And that would be reckless.

15k ES on the other hand, is heavy investment into their tree.

I dont think armour or life in the warrior part of tree needs any attention.

I think other parts of hybrid, particularly hybrid armour/evasion, for mercs, needs some work.

And just evasion in general, as I think deflection is a joke especially with its poor scaling
