the temple mechanic needs to be sunsetted and never brought back

not just because of the loot and the exploits and all that, just the mechanic itself is absolutely ass. you open a temple and get 6 tiles and maybe 1 or 2 can be placed never mind that it doesnt matter how many path tiles you have, none of them can be placed in front of atziri's room. its basically a perma skip feature.

I disagree on sunsetting, it's something extra to make endgame less stagnant, but it needs to be severely changed to something far more simple.

Just make all rooms connect with each other, except hallways that only connect on their proper end, set a limited number of rooms that can be in place in any given moment, as well as a limited number of times you can open the temple, and let the player temple wipe at any time. After you put in all temple tiles you are allowed OR you reach the end of your set number of temple opening, you get a forced Temple wipe next activation, so you have an incentive to rush Atziri.

That way it turns it into a puzzle on how to reach Atziri and get the most number of special rooms before being locked out. Do you risk going for that lineage gem on the corner even though it's too far away? Or do you beeline straight for Atziri? Or just skip some rooms hoping to get a very good room placed to farm for the duration of this "cycle"? Maybe you can get one, maybe both, but you go too much out of your way you might just get Temple wiped due to timeout or lack of rooms and restarted (which isn't the end of the world, anyway, since you aren't building snakes with infinite loops).

There is some layer of complexity, but it's not obscure nor exoteric, and you can't brick your temple. Rules are properly conveyed to the player, there is still RNG involved but you probably can at least get one of the special things if you focus solely on those (but the more stuff you try to get, the harder you skirt towards a temple wipe).
