Shader cache / loading time disgusted
|
To be honest i'm just disgusted by the game right now an i move on another:
I was about to get for the first time in a party to rush the taintless paradise map, which was pretty cool to be honest but the time to load (shader cache and content i guess?) the hideout and then the map the group was gone far in the map already, then i died trying to join them. Took like 30s to 1 minute to load each instances. I was thinking that a RTX 4060 was ok, seems not. Last bumped on Jan 9, 2026, 9:47:12 AM

The only time shader get recached is when you change API (vulkan to DX12, etc), it also happens when you update/downgrade the videocard driver and also when you move the shader cache directory. I assume you dont play PoE2 on a mecanical harddrive...if that's the case your problem lies here. Otherwise don't mess with drivers otherwise it's gonna cache again.

NVIDIA – increasing Shader Cache
Open NVIDIA Control Panel (right-click on desktop → NVIDIA Control Panel). Go to Manage 3D settings → Global Settings tab. On the settings list, find Shader Cache Size. Change from "Driver Default" to e.g. 10 GB, 100 GB, or Unlimited (if you have plenty of disk space). Click Apply and restart your computer. |

" " Ty guys I know about the shader cache and it's true it has been cleaned right before this drama. Maybe I will increase the size from "default" to something bigger, ty, if it can really increase the default loading times. Btw "default" size is 16gb on recent drivers. Unfortunately this doesn't really "fix" the problem: I would prefer an option that would build all the possible or up like 90% of the cache before the real gameplay instead of getting online lagging for few days: Because it seems to take a while to load all the needed maps/areas/hideouts before reaching a decent delay. Ty again have a nice day. Last edited by Universalis#5776 on Dec 26, 2025, 12:47:28 PM

it is unplayable at all. sometimes it works smooth, sometimes you need up to 5 times to restart this "game" just to get in your hideout

there are some instances too where you already played a map before and you already built the shader cache and when you visit the same map it rebuilds the shader cache.

" " I used AI to create a PS script to delete all generic shader cache from nvidia and various games (including locked files), selected vulkan, and finally configured my nvidia shader cache size value to "unlimited" in nvidiaInspector; I will bump this topic if I realise some areas continue to have a too long load (because it could be a problem of cache overwritting over itself instead) From a map: Back to hideout today i had at least 1-2 minute loading time. Weird, maybe it's not only a shader problem ? I would have to check if CPU is massively used during these load screens, if yes, it's probably compilation (i guess so, im not an expert) meaning an issues like dev saying it's the new driver etc Last edited by Universalis#5776 on Dec 28, 2025, 7:47:37 AM
