Can't use portal or re-enter in Vaal Ruins

was about 80% done with running a Vaal Ruins when I tried to portal out to get rid of some of the stuff I picked up and grab things that I wanted to used inside. To only be left with the door being closed and cannot re-enter. I thought it was like the Abyssal Depths where you can leave and come back. I have been doing this all weekend long just for it to not be a thing right after the patch. I am not sure if this was intended or if it was a bug before but for me, at the moment, I can't do something I have been doing this entire update.
