Exactly which league is your character in?
It sounds like they're in an SSF (Solo; Self Found) one. Having spent thousands of euros on Path of Exile over the years, I will not be further supporting it financially until and unless GGG resumes offering Technical Support.

Please be aware that if your character is in SSF, then you won't be able to trade. To clarify, you can not trade or party in a Solo Self Found League. A Solo Self Found character cannot party or trade as this would mean that the are not Solo or Self Found.
