Matiki in the nest

After killing the boss on Shrike Island, a popup to return to the ship appears and I clicked on it. I didn't even notice Matiki in the nest whom I need to click on to access the trials, I had to go back again later and the instance had reset so I had to clear the entire area and fight the boss again to access Matiki. Matiki should walk out to the middle of the arena after the boss fight and it should be mandatory to click him first before returning to the ship. There are multiple instances like this that I have to backtrack because I forgot to click someone, why can't I just get quest completion for killing the boss instead of having to click an NPC at the corner of my screen I may or may not see?
