Bring back gems sockets from POE 1

This new gem system is horrible.
No money until, GGG fix melee.

The gem system itself is great.

The gems themselves are the problem.

The socket should be what is modified, not the gem.

Gems should level up, and not have corny ass "tiers" of supports or "skill gem level" to cut.

You should cut a gem at level 1 and then level it up like normal.

What's wrong with it?
Nah, changing gems in poe1 is a pain in the ass. You spend 2h to change all gear sockets and buy each gem from differeent ppl.

This is huge quality of life, you can change and test stuff 100x faster

The gem system in Path of Exile 2 is flawed because it strips build freedom

locking skills behind structural requirements instead of player choice, adds complexity without meaningful depth, makes leveling more rigid and less enjoyable, disproportionately punishes casual players, pushes players toward pre-planned builds and external guides instead of creativity, and ultimately replaces PoE’s classic identity of freedom and customization with a rigid, bureaucratic, and frustrating system that adds more annoyance than value.

the gem leveling system is flawed because it pretends to be more accessible while introducing new structural problems, as skill levels are artificially decoupled from character level and tied to a slow, opaque progression system that leaves players using underpowered abilities for long stretches with little control over when they improve, removes the classic sense of growth since leveling up does not reliably translate into increased power, turns gem progression into a passive and bureaucratic process rather than a strategic choice

Hell nah, this system is so much better, skills stied to socket in gear is so mcuh worse.

Honestly i got into poe1 due to poe2 and even tho the gem system can be a bit frustrating for a new player, it's just so much better.
Poe2 you don't have access to certain gems and supports until much later on which means you always end up leveling with the same skills, same progression no matter what. It feels like you are locked into a certain playstyle until endgame forced by the devs, not to mention campaign is a drag and is only going to get worse.
I feel like we need more options early on, oh also the passive tree kinda sucks compared to poe1. I just don't get it, the game is a huge downgrade. Has better animations and looks better that's it (horrendous performance).
Hopefully 0.5 endgame overhaul will make the game slightly bearable

The gem system doesn't change build freedom in any capacity. If you don't like the supports available, maybe that's something that can be discussed in a different topic. That has nothing to do with the system itself.

The gem system removes complexity compared to PoE2. No more colored sockets, no more linking. What complexity do you think it adds?

Lastly, with regards to gem levels, you are blowing the situation way out of proportion. The only level that your complaints relate to is Lv.20 and MAYBE Lv.19 gems, nothing more. I am always swimming in extra skill gems I don't need. When my skills are underleveled by many levels, it's my fault.

Sorry, but I'll happily take the uncut leveling system over dealing with fusings and chromatics ever again. This system is far better.

No, thats the second reason why its good. Poe2 campaign wasnt made to be skipped like poe1 with overpowered skills.

Also, every weapon in poe2 feels like a different game. Crossbow combat style is a world of difference from wands, or from maces. It adds a shit ton to replay the game as different char.

Poe 1 you can get a 2h axe with full armour and cast spark. Its just lazy design desguised as freedom. You could just remove all weapons and add stones with gem sockets and diferrent stats, it wont make a difference
