PoE2 classes have ZERO identity
|
Giving Druid as an example - since Shapeshifting is tied to a weapon, druid has zero identity as a class. It is actually the same case for all other classes since all classes can use all weapons.
On one hand I understand the "build diversity and limitless possibilities" although it doesnt work (and never worked) like that. Because every class can use everything, it just means that everything is nerfed to the ground. You cannot e.g. use cool skill on ranger just because another class ascendancy has better interaction with it. So called "limitless possibilies" as GGG likes to mention, in fact does the opposite and most of the skills do not work. How many people play mercenary with crossbow? Almost nobody because its just better on Deadeye or Lich. GGG cannot buff crossbow skills to make mercenary viable just because it will make other classes stronger. To not make this post an entire book, as there is far more examples (both in PoE1 and PoE2), weapons should been tied to specific classes only - unintentionally this would increase the build diversity. Not even mentioning that it would make balancing infinitely easier What do you think of it? I am open for critique and discussion Last bumped on Dec 13, 2025, 7:30:09 PM

Assuming this is not a troll post: The identity of the classes is baked into the ascendancies, not the weapons or the gems. Never has been, not here, not in PoE1. If anything, there should be some change to one of the ascendancies for merc that improves its ability to use crossbows. If you lock weapons to each class, barf... worst decision you could make for any PoE game.
