changes for charge skills go into the wrong direction
|
With the upcoming patch the parry-disengage combo will deal AoE damage (parry) and generate 3 charges instead of 1. Also killing palm will now cull automatically nearby low hp enemies to generate additional charges.
In addition the infused spear skills have been buffed by a lot. The fun gameplay of playing for player power by generating charges will fall away to a large degree. Parry also deals AoE damage now, so might feel like half a damage skill. Instead of having to manage charges and using sometimes empowered, sometimes unempowered skills, the charge generation will be effortless and empowered skills can be spammed without thought. Likely you can even do something like chaining "killing palm" -> "flicker striker" -> "killing palm" -> "flicker striker"... The gameplay looses potential depth - becomes simplified and streamlined. There can't be a "gathering of multiple charges" to charge up a powerful ultimate skill, if charge generation is too easy. Neither can there be meaningful charge preservation or making choices on which skills to spend them and when to use unempowered skills. Nor can there be gameplay like first generating charges in a more effortful way and then sustain them in a different way (e.g. via storm lance to electrocute enemies, which requires a frenzy charge to start with, but then can self-sustain charges via combat frenzy). It's not a good idea to balance gainer-spender gameplay around players who do not like gainer-spender gameplay and want to use high powered spenders all the time. Equally it's not a good idea to balance naturally slower or more complex builds around players who do not like those. I can live with there being deadeye - I can not live with everything slowly being adapted towards that kind of effortless, speed clearing playstyle. I hope the game doesn't become too streamlined, changes like making perfect timing windows larger, removing components that made skills unique like removing the charging up of damage stages for incinerate, lowering cooldowns so they don't really matter anymore, etc sadly look like the game is slowly becoming worse. yeah - but the infinite unsatified zoomer community is louder so game later or earlier will be toned for sake of players from POE 1
Reaching at some point - the same community as everyone who loved methodical combat and challenging aproach to it - will simply.. leave as most of those people leaved already with realization it's in end-game more of POE 1 than what was promised End game is to fast to any synergies to stay here for end-game and only one-button builds are really viable. |
