Start playing with brother and two nieces - recommended builds?
|
Plan on trying this out with my brother and his two daughters and I'm looking for rekommendations on builds?
I used to play quite a lot a few years back so I'm familiar with the mechanics, but what would you recommend for two girls in their low teens? I'm thinking something ranged and not too squishy that doesn't require too much juggling between different skills? Personally I would expect to go for something melee and tanky so they can stay back and shoot stuff. We will only be playing together in a part of four. Will most likely go for standard League since I have lots of stuff left over from previous Leagues. Any rekommendations are welcome! :D Last bumped on Dec 2, 2025, 2:23:48 AM

RF using Pohxs guides/videos. I have not tried any of maxrolls but their d4 guides are really good so I'm sure the POE ones aren't bad either. I have just done RF 1 time before and it is pretty smooth once you get past rolling magma. Good luck and have fun!

I'd recommend the girls keep their eyes closed Act 3 lunaris temple

I like something fun and splashy, like a Lightning Trap Saboteur. The details are up to you, but the effect is always a hoot, especially if you throw in returning projectiles. =^[.]^=

Probably something with one button spamming ranged proj. Something like lightning arrow or ark. Probably depends on which class they want to play. Minions also sound like a good suggestion. Absolution perhaps.
Not everyone is loving Keepers at the moment. I think it's been good, and is a friendly mechanic for newer players but standard might be a good choice there. It's good for playing the campaign, but maybe not the best for first experience of the game, since it is forced content, can't just be skipped if not everyone likes it. Then again, it may be something they enjoy. Probably is easier to help people learn when you have access to some existing currency in your standard stash. Though often players will like to be able to build something with stuff they are finding or finding together in the group. It's a big part of the game while learning. If just equipping pre found gear, it's removing a large part of what make the game interesting. Having stuff to help if needed would be useful too though. Thanks for all the recommendations!
Since this is their first play thru, we will be going slowly so the focus is mainly the campaign. After reading your comments and recommendations I think the girls will be assigned a minion based and possibly some version of totem/ballista or ranged build. Should be fairly simple and not require too much skill juggling and button mashing :D Or do you guys have any other fun builds for the campaign part of the game? I will probably be going for a slam build of some kind to add a bit of tankiness. I think we will use what we find, but enhance it when needed. It will be a standard league, it will probably take us several months to make it thru the campaign, so will want things to stay the same even if the league changes. And on the plus side I have tons of currency left from previous Leagues... Last edited by Frispe1#0608 on Dec 1, 2025, 2:49:27 PM

How about actually asking the girls what type of character they would like to try? Don't force a build type on them.
66 year old Grandma here :D BTW, how much time per day will you be playing? There is always a risk that future expansions make some Standard builds non-functional or needing massive rebuilding. 😹😹😹😹😹
I do not and will not use TFT. Gaming Granny :D 🐢🐢🐢🪲🪲🪲 @xjjanie.bsky.social |

" Good point! We have played torchlight 2 before and there they preferred ranged builds, but now its about time to upgrade to the grown up realm of PoE! :D Will ofc ask them what they want to try out, but want to have an idea of how different builds work before I recommend anything. We wont be play hours/day, we will play maybe a total of 2 hours every weekend so there is a risk things will change during our play thru. If they feel its worth playing that long :D Last edited by Frispe1#0608 on Dec 2, 2025, 2:25:12 AM
