Why Gain Life/ES per hit doesn't work on Totems/Balistas?

I understand why leech doesn't work (because totems leech to themself), but why Gain doesn't work?
It should work like a charges on a flask (gain a Flask Charge when you deal a Critical Strike) IMHO gain should work on Totems and Ballista's, because tbh - recovery on them is abysmal :( Or at least Totem Mastery should be more generic, and not only for phys leech as life, like for example "Damage Leeched by your totem's is leeched to you at 20% of its value" UPD: Why this post was moved by mods to PoE2 discussion? You are not gaining anything, because you are not hitting anything.

Becouse the totem is hiting. You are not hitting anything.
