Petrified Blood and Progenesis only affect how you lose life from damage, not how much damage you take. This is part of why they work well with recoup--you recoup based on the full damage dealt, not only the life loss that wasn't delayed.
The "Take 40% less Damage from Hits" DOES affect the damage you take, so it applies before Petrified Blood and Progenesis. The delayed life loss from "That Didn't Happen" is based on the damage taken, so it's unaffected by Petrified Blood and Progenesis delaying a part of the instant life loss from the hit taken. |

" i see,so i take that after that stuff i only take 60% dmg which later will be cut 40% as a damage over time from petrified blood while i take 36% as direct hit. so in conclusion this ascendancy doesnt work well with petrified blood because now i cant even recoup those 40% damage taken later or make them as damage over time. thank you for the answer. |

" Using roughly your character's stats for reference, here's a comparison. With Level 21, 0% quality Petrified Blood alone (prevent 40%, take 80% over 4 seconds), ~60% life recoup, and assuming you're below half Life, you would take: 60% of the hit's life loss immediately ~28% recouped over 4 seconds. (60% recouped - 32% life loss from Petrified Blood) Adding That Didn't Happen, with taking less hit damage factored in, you would take: 36% of the hit's life loss immediately (40% less damage taken from That Didn't Happen, then 40% delayed by Petrified Blood) ~17% recouped over 4 seconds (60% of 60% = 36% recouped, - 19% life loss) 24% after 4 seconds (with the difference from level and quality only affecting how much life is lost over 4 seconds) The total life loss that isn't lost over time is unchanged. You would recoup less with That Didn't Happen compared to without, with the lost recovery being equivalent to taking ~11% more damage. If you didn't have Recoup, though, you'd be taking less damage instead. Looking at this, That Didn't Happen would allow you to tank larger hits by splitting the hits into two instances, and slightly incentivize other recovery methods (Leech, Regen, Flask) over Recoup. |
