limit number of stock to sell

i sometimes see people selling something and i buy all their stock. then i see they still have more stock, and i ask them how many they got, and it turns out they have far more than what's displayed. how are they doing this? how can i do the same? i dont want all my stock available for trade.

last league there was a guy selling chroms for 1200 : 1 on the trade site. his stock says exactly 1200. i bought them, ran out, saw hes still on trade listing, asked him how many he got and he said over 9000. i bought like 6k and he said hes not selling the remainder. but if i have 9k chrom and i list it for sale, all 9k will show up on stock, he only had 1200 show up at a time.

Please note: Stock includes all of the items of that type that are publicly listed (priced or not).

I guess have the stock you don't want to trade kept in tabs that aren't public?

Yeah it would be possible to do with the stacks split and one in non-public. Is it possible he listed another 1200 after you bought them. The trade site does have some delays involved.

I have a second currency tab myself, mainly for keeping currency separate when practicing league start. If it's non public and I put them in there, those ones should not show. This should be possible with a regular tab that is not public as well. I think if it is public it combines the stock number. Not sure if it is possible to do with a single stack in a public stash. There might be some syntax, but I'm not aware of it (edit: not possible according to above quote in Jadian comment).

Outside trade site, currency exchange would also be an option, where you are listing them in a separate mechanic and choose the stock amount to list.
