Feature Request: Custom Chat Filter with Regex Support (To Combat RMT Spam)
|
Hello Grinding Gear Games (GGG) Development Team,
I am writing to suggest a crucial quality-of-life feature for the in-game chat system, specifically aimed at combating the persistent, illegal advertising from Real Money Trading (RMT) bot accounts, especially at the start of a new league. The Problem During league launch periods, the chat is constantly flooded with messages from RMT websites. Even after blocking these accounts repeatedly, new accounts are instantly created using automated tools (macros). My Block List quickly fills up, making it useless for blocking players who genuinely engage in disruptive or toxic behaviour. The sheer volume of spam makes the list unmanageable. This constant spam significantly detracts from the chat experience and the overall enjoyment of the game. Suggested Feature: Advanced Chat Filtering I propose adding a user-customizable chat filter system similar in functionality to the Item Filter. Feature: Custom Chat Filter (with Regex Support) Mechanism: Player Input: Allow players to register specific keywords, phrases, or website addresses into a custom filter list. Regex Application: The system should ideally support Regular Expressions (Regex). This would allow players to create powerful, flexible rules to catch variants of common spam phrases. Action (Filtering): Any chat message containing the registered keyword, phrase, or matching the Regex pattern should be completely ignored/hidden from the player's chat window. Why This Feature is Needed Block List Efficiency: It frees up the limited Block List for its intended purpose—blocking specific disruptive players, rather than endless bot accounts. Combatting New Bots: Since the filter targets the content (the advertisement) rather than the specific account name, it remains effective even when bots create new characters or accounts. Improved Player Experience: It enables legitimate players to utilise global/trade chat effectively by eliminating visual clutter and annoyance caused by RMT spam. I believe this feature would be an extremely valuable addition to the game, giving players the necessary tools to manage their own chat experience against RMT flooding. Thank you for your time and consideration. Last bumped on Nov 7, 2025, 11:27:01 PM
