Telegraphed attacks and the 'new' evasion
|
So, ever since 0.3, evasion was absolutely gutted for the second time since January iirc, by making the telegraphed boss attacks immune to evasion checks.
We get it, you like dodge. The new wet dream seems to be a game where everybody is constantly pressing dodge. But your belief that the telegraphing of the now unevadible slams is sufficient, is wrong. I've had plenty of occasions fighting a boss where so much effects were showing up that i didn't even see the boss anymore, but just a thick mesh of bright white spots and sparkles, indicating various cold explosions and the likes. They literally just blot out whomever it is you're pounding on. I have to move in to attack, start dealing damage and then GUESS whether it could be about that time where the boss in question is going to start his slam. Retreat, check the boss's actions now that he's actually VISIBLE again and depending that, either move in again or wait out the slam attack. No doubt that other skills may experience this issue much less or even not at all, but maximum graphical settings and my cold based monk is just a mess, sorry. Keep in mind this is still only single player and without any MTX's for the skills and such applied. That's surely something to look forward to then. In short, if i can no longer correctly discern the shape of the boss, then how am i supposed to know when to dodge ? Dodge was fine as an additional mechanic. I use it when required, which is fairly regularly. I also used it before boss slams became immune to evade, as i'm sure many others were as well. But forcing it's use even more in this way, is garbage. When you happen to watch your own podcasts, presentations and streams from the past, please, do NOT believe the lines about visual clarity. If this is still considered a pillar of the design, then allow me to state it clearly : you failed. Massively. There is ZERO visual clarity in POE 2 endgame. Please reconsider letting evasion work on boss slams. The absolute ludicrous inadequacy of the telegraphing really is more than reason enough. But in case you disagree, evasion also did not need this HARD nerf. It already was doubly executed in 0.2, then again with this move and recently, YET again in 0.3.1. And while the introduction of deflection could have salvaged something out of this mess, for some builds/classes, many important nodes that might allow deflection to help bring it back up, are just simply out of reach. EV is already by itself a binary defense. Either evade, or don't. That intrinsic working of EV is enough to offset it's advantage. Turning this into if (A = true) { dodge OR die } else { evade OR die } is not OK. Why does evasion merit a secondary hit or miss condition ? Where is the according change to armour then that first rolls a die to check whether you are actually WEARING it ? Or is that coming in 0.4 ? Enough already. Let evasion evade. Or at least have a chance to do so Last edited by keppie#6373 on Oct 26, 2025, 4:40:22 AM Last bumped on Oct 26, 2025, 4:46:18 PM

I don't understand why they would make it impossible to evade attacks(aka, require dodge roll), but then not do the same for armor and energy shield. Make those ineffective against the same attacks. Then you can have 100% of your player base posting how much they hate the idea.
The real solution is to remove one-shots. Design the boss fights correctly and they aren't needed. |

Has anyone gotten deflection over 90% and then tried to tank the monkey slam? Deflection works against red flash boss attacks.
It's on my list of things to test, but I haven't gotten a character's deflection high enough yet. SSF Rise of the Abyssal Ice Strike Invoker, high survivability and fast clear speed. Deprioritize armor and resistances; prioritize crafting a weapon and faster start of ES recharge. Build is shown at level 47, end of Act 3. It tore through Act 3 like butter.

I can take a monkey slam on my warrior. 3k life, 2k ES, 1k mana 45k armor. All globes empty with a sliver of life left. Lol...
My Ice huntress is pure Ev and she would get killed for sure, but she's so fast that she runs circles around him as he slowly lumbers around trying to figure out where to slam. Idk I've never had an issue with the monkey, really dont know what the fuss is. Its a big slam for big damage, its easy enough to dodge so if you mess up the timing you should have to pay. You cant get greedy DPSing or you will get caught with yer pants down and get slammed... Last edited by Panzerstrike#1881 on Oct 25, 2025, 11:33:27 PM

" Right. I do agree the bosses as they stand now, since 0.3.1, are overtuned. But i don't have necessarily have anything against them being able to have lethal attacks. They're bosses and they as well as pinnacles tend to be the sole challenging fights in POE anyway. It's the whole deal as it is packaged now that becomes unbearable. The existence of these one-shots, limited to no visibility in certain situations that only stand to aggravate themselves over time, and a defense layer that could somewhat mitigate this problem, being crippled by just plain refusing to let it work. And all for what ? No matter how much GGG may like the idea that dodge introduced meaningful combat to ARPG's, it never seems to be meaningful enough because they keep trying to insert it into more gameplay aspects. I'll agree that dodge did introduce something interesting. Even tying it to sprint worked out fairly well in my opinion. But please stop trying to make it more than that to the detriment of other things. You managed to add it to the game and giving it some use. Now take the money and run In my opinion, this particular change kills evasion for certain classes because long pathing is an absolute horror show in this convoluted mess of a passive tree, despite the existence of certain jewels. Please reconsider " If i do that, i'll have to ask the boss nicely to please die Last edited by keppie#6373 on Oct 26, 2025, 5:14:23 AM

" No because if you are stacking %90 deflection you are probably doing minimal damage which is againts the rule of POE. Also Instead of it stack armor with elemental damage also applies to armor much much more better. Short ; Deflection sucks and Evasion gutted. And they did this on one night without letting players then went away to POE1 new league. I m really getting out of my patient for this game. |
