Can you help me with chosing a Class for new league?

Haven't really played poe1, tried a few times and quit but this league looks promising and i want to try it from the start when everyone is the most active. I also like the general idea of this league.
I am having trouble though with choosing a class to play. I want something more methodical. With not a lot of screen clutter. Closer to poe2 gameplay if that is possible? Something that is nice to look at and so i can appreciate design of the game too. A warrior of some kind would be nice (meaning melee), maybe with a shield? Something that is tanky, maybe partially a support so i can play in party with people? But i am open to any other suggestion you have. *As an example i would actually give the league reveal video. Some of the videos featured a character with decent skills that didn't clutter the screen too much and looked pretty nice and not too fast and zoomy. But others where these LA/LS type of pew pew pew pew whole screen in projectiles and you can't see shit. Spin-to-win also looked nice. Last bumped on Oct 24, 2025, 7:31:17 PM

If you want to play a "warrior type with a shield" you could look into Spectral Shield Throw Gladiator. It's a bleeding variant that is tanky and is surprisingly good as a starter. It's pretty laid back to play as well, has good mobility and doesn't require a high budget to function.
There's also a cold conversion variant that has explosions with Herald of Ice that is played on Champion (another Duelist ascendancy) so you have options The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.

Returning player here with many hours in 1 and more than I wish I had in 2, but I'll suggest Shield Crush/Shield Charge. Potent, tanky and pretty straightforward melee without huge area explosions, unless you add Herald of Ash

Like others have said, Shield Crush is powerful and tanky. You can play it as any of the left side Classes/Ascendancies - ie - Templar into Inquisitor, Marauder into Juggneraught/Chieftain or Duelist into all 3 Ascendancies.
Also, Shield Crush of the Chieftain (fire version) was buffed last league so it does more dps now (it was already a good skill prior to buffing). Very fun playstyle. Youtube - PartTimeExile
