Possible Rarity Bug
|
Hello,
I’ve been playing your game quite a lot and have been running occasional test sessions of 50 maps each since version 0.2 to study the effects of rarity, tablets, and waystone mods. Everything has always made perfect sense — until recently, when I ran a test with 200% character-rarity and actually got less currency than with 150% and even 75% rarity. I usually post videos about my tests, and several viewers mentioned having similar experiences. Maybe you can check whether the area around 200% rarity is functioning as intended. Here’s what happened in detail: I ran 50 maps with 76% rarity, 50 with 150%, and 50 with 200%. The currency drops I counted were: Perfect Orb of Transmutation Perfect Orb of Augmentation Perfect Regal Orb Normal, Greater, and Perfect Exalted Orb Normal, Greater, and Perfect Chaos Orb Vaal Orb Orb of Chance Divine Orb Orb of Annulment For all 150 maps, I kept the Waystones and Tablets as consistent as possible and only ran normal maps — no unique maps, no corrupted or cleansed areas, and no citadels. From 75% to 150% rarity, I found roughly twice as much currency, but at 200% rarity, I got 64% less than with 150%, and even 25% less than with 75%. This was the first time a test result made no sense at all. Viewers suggested I post this in the official forum — so here I am. Maybe it’s worth someone taking a look at. Thanks! 50 maps per is far too small a sample pool to accurately reflect the effects of rarity on drop rates. If you had done a thousand or so of each in very controlled settings and documented all then it may be something to raise an eyebrow at. Sometimes you can go a hundred maps without seeing a level 20 skill gem and then all of a sudden get two in the same map. Welcome to Random Number Generation

This is caused by rarity "accumulating" your drops into fewer greater and perfect orbs.
Take a look at farham's videos on rarity to learn more about this and how to exploit it. Last edited by gewd#4574 on Oct 23, 2025, 3:07:54 PM

" Sure, might be. It isn’t really helpful if the overall value of drops goes down by 60% compared to having 50% less rarity. So I still doubt it’s working as intended. " I don’t think it’s too small of a sample. I get the impression that you can tell the difference between 50 and 100 rarity within about 10 maps or so. If you have to run 1,000 maps to feel like rarity is doing something, it’s worthless. 1,000 maps is probably way more than most players ever run in an entire season, xd. Anyway, I’m not here to argue with people — just want to present what I found to GGG. Either they take a look or they don’t. Last edited by iliathaX#7359 on Oct 24, 2025, 9:17:36 AM
