Currency Exchange annoyances and incoherent gold costs
| 1) The game should not alter the exchange rate values automatically, beyond initially populating them. It is so incredibly annoying that the game thinks it knows better and changes what I'm typing as I'm typing it, or just after I've typed it, forcing me to retype it again. Similarly, right as I'm clicking the button to buy things, or clicking a field to confirm that I've set this value and it changes the value in the timeframe of the click. 2) Stop pre-completing trades. It costs 40k gold each time I list this quantity and I've had to relist it 3x now because it keeps feeding in some small quantity sold at a rate cheaper than what I posted, then (I think) determines it can't complete the rest of the trade since the ratio doesn't match anymore. So it "completes" the trade at ~2% and doesn't refund my gold. I listed it at different rates each time to try and avoid that. 3) When gold costs are so high, particularly for obtaining basic currency, the value of the item being sold to obtain that currency no longer matters. Regardless of if I'm selling a bunch of common runes or rare soul cores, obtaining 690 exalts has the same price: 82,800 gold. 200:1 for whetstones is frequently fulfilled, but it costs the same as 7:1. That is, the value of what I'm offering to obtain those whetstones no longer matters to me and is secondary to the gold as it's the gating currency, not exalts or chaos or w/e. This then incentivizes you to list items in exalts in your player shop, to avoid the transaction tax, but the relative value of exalts is artificially inflated. For example, I've been churning through timeless jewels to find an efficient one for my build (it took 199 to find one that's halfway usable), and often the listings are like 1 annul < 20 chaos < 2 annul < 250 exalts, when 2 annuls are cheaper than 20 chaos (8-9c ea) and exalts are 60:1c atm. That is, the 250 exalt listings are < 5 chaos and cheaper than the very first items being listed yet are buried however many pages deep. Similarly, these are ~2.5c: The currency whackiness is nothing new for PoE's trade site, but it's like you're being doubly punished for using low-denomination currency, since gold costs are based on quantity traded and then shop trades listed in exalts are overvalued and deprioritized. Sure, buyers can set their listings to filter by exalts and whatnot, so you can find these listings, but the majority of buyers are not going to do that, which greatly hinders acquisition. I don't mind that gold has value derived from gating your throughput on market transactions, but I do mind that it's largely based on quantity. Group Castaway runs and juiced abysses are being organized and sold at varying rates. The two most recent posts today charge 4-5d / 5 maps run, with others imposing 1d/600k gold. This effectively means that, while not "canon", the effective market price for 900 whetstones can be considered as not 1-7 exalts, but 0.75d + 1-7 exalts. For my part, I've just been churning through my expedition currency buying rares from the vendors and selling them right back like a Venezuelan runescape farmer, which, while effective in amassing gold faster than mapping, is not particularly enjoyable go figure.
