Welcome back. 2014 was a while ago, and builds come and go. I'd recommend a look around the builds section of the forums, or look on poe ninja for the most popular builds folk have been playing recently.
I'd still recommend trying explosive arrow ballista totem elementalist (witch). It remains "easy mode" but isn't being played much - because more people have played it to death - so the kit is cheaper. Current Build: Level 100 Elementalist EA Totem (standard league 3.26)

" Do not do this. This is bad advice. PoE Ninja primarily shows you barely functional builds and/or min/maxed to the 9s builds. It will give you NO information on league starter builds. If you look at PoE Ninja for anything, it will screw you and your experience HARD. Youtube is going to be your best friend, but wait until a few days before the new league release to watch updated videos. Starting anew....with PoE 2

RF is a good league starter if it survives patch notes. There are plenty of rf guides like pohx and captainlance. Really though I would wait until patch notes before deciding on a build and probably just look up w/e builds get posted by the hc community on youtube.
And yeah spectral throw can still be played like most skills but it's definitely not meta. If your just looking to have fun and learn the game again I'd say do w/e you want but copy a good passive tree for that build type. Last edited by newbutnot#7699 on Oct 22, 2025, 12:47:35 AM

99% of POE ninja builds for a given skill are copy cats of each other with next to zero defensive layers because they are built for softcore zoom zoom. One stiff breeze or lag hickup and you will be having a dirt nap.
POE ninja is fine once you've built up a fair bit of experience in playing POE endgame yourself, and even then you need to understand what you are looking at, why the choices were made, where wrong choices are being made, etc. A particular place where POE ninja fails at is when a player looks for builds there to gauge "viability". This is a vague term and a melee skill like "reave" would be currently deemed "not viable" as a physical version this patch. This skill has extremely low representation this league (and last league) on POE ninja. I made one as an assassin with about 100 div investment doing 15-20 mil DPS on trash and 25-30 mil DPS on single target and fairly tanky too. It's not big peen numbers, but it's far from being "not viable" and serves as an example. Harvest (sacred grove) itself has big spawning packs of high damage (relative to outside map content) monsters, so having poor gear near melee range in that situation will quickly kill you. Therefore, if that is your early mapping choice, go for safer league start choices like: - explosive arrow elementalist - summon raging spirit guardian - big slamming big AOE melee from far away - ball lightning of static hierophant - power siphon totem hierophant - toxic rain pathfinder Last edited by mnieradko#6070 on Oct 22, 2025, 8:58:27 AM
