Make Hollow Palm endgame viable through itemization

Currently HP is pretty subpar compared to using any +skills staff.

Which isn't a bad concept, you use HP to breeze through campaign and early endgame and then you transition into a well crafted staff.

All nice and dandy, however, it'd be nice if there was a way to make HP as good as having a staff.

"but bruh, you're literally saving a gear slot, it should not be as good as investing in that gearslot" YES, YOU ARE CORRECT.

The solution? Give us a unique helmet, something cool and iconic for monks. Something like a "Martial Artist's Blindfold" (name it whatever you wish) and make it give +skills when unarmed, increasable by vaaling so that we get a nice gamba trading cycle with it, gate it behind a boss if need be, whatever feels proper. Anything that can offset the fact that you don't invest in a weapon by investing harder in another gearslot.

Problem is GGG made unarmed Monk animations look too cool and now I cannot fathom using a staff, I don't even want to play the character anymore by using the staff.

Give us bare fisted exiles freedom GGG

isn't it already endgame more than viable??
i mean i never used killing palm, i used it with hollow palm and it's broken lol
Ya currently Hallow Palm (unarmed) Invoker Monk is like the 3rd most popular ascendancy/build to play. It's very powerful.

Getting to 100 with Hollow Palm is easy, that is not what I'm talking about.

In terms of DPS, Quarterstaff will always outclass Hollow Palm (I've tested it myself with my own HP build which is the same staple as all of those builds you're looking at in poeninja)

The thing is HP is more than enough to do T15s and T16s , that has nothing to do with Quarterstaff being even stronger, and by far.

It's a powercreep issue that when you start shooting for the really high end content (full juicing and rippy mods) Quarterstaff just outshines HP.

It reaches a point where you're like "how do I scale my build even higher" and you're looking at 150div unique jewels for a bit of multiplier when you could just spend less than 30div in a budget QS+trislot gloves and get 10 times more dps.

It's expensive to scale further and gets a sort of diminishing returns in comparison to QS

I think the biggest issue is that a quarterstaff gives you access to "+X to skills," which is massive. I'm running a Hollow Palm character, and I've accepted the fact that there's some content I might not be able to do.
SSF Rise of the Abyssal Ice Strike Invoker, high survivability and fast clear speed. Deprioritize armor and resistances; prioritize crafting a weapon and faster start of ES recharge. Build is shown at level 47, end of Act 3. It tore through Act 3 like butter.

That's why I suggested a simple unique that adds +skills when unarmed.

My current build HP can kill all bosses easily but doesn't have access to the oh so needed better clear tech for abyss (IE high damage heralds from +skills + uul netol's). And you also sacrifice so much gear power for it, which also means less defense and less rarity on gear.

It's really just a "carry me to 90ish and then respec to quarterstaff" keystone

True a big d*** Qstaff will outshine HP, but HP is still capable of clearing all content. Though i agree, HP shoukd get some more damage on the high end imo. Like more flat physical on gem levels starting lvl 20+.
Culmination II support gem solves bossing issues. You attack faster Unarmed, so you can stack it faster, which evens out the missing damage.
This is less a review and matter of Hollow Palm vs Quarterstaffs, and more just a review of the excessive value of "+ skill level" affixes.

It's not that Staff > HP, it's just that having +skill > missing slot for +skill.

If that one affix (type) didn't exist, first of all itemization variably could immediately be increased since there would no longer be that "obligatory on every slot it exists for" affix, and secondly HP could arguably be just as good as using a Staff, just with different focus as to what you want to roll on your armor and what passives you use.
