Age of ai

Hello PoE team,
I really enjoy playing your game.
In today's age of artificial intelligence, it's a bit disappointing that your game still doesn't support my local language.
I play on PlayStation, and I can't download or create an additional language pack.
Please consider adding Turkish to the available languages in your game for the sake of accessibility.

I'm for turkish language support. But i'm against the use of AI for this OFFICIALLY.

The reason is simple: POE is a complex game and wording matters a lot. Last month, a japanese player pointed a contextual mistake for the translation of a certain unique item's effects and this led to a misconception.
Localization and translation, specially in a live service game, is hard.

It would be nice if we had the option to run custom language packs. AI would be an option, but so would be crowdsourced translations from the community. In my native language, in POE1, i see many localization errors so I can empathize with you. I do not think it's possible to decouple text from the game though.

It is possible to run AI translators through games and they have the same problem as an actual translator, they don't really understand the context or the nuances

That's not what i've said.

And i hope you didn't mean to say that translators do not understand context and nuance for the language they are translating to and for. What happens when using AI translation is that, in the end, you have to redo all the work and then you are kept wondering why you ran the text through ML in the first place. The difference between human translation and machine translation is enormous especially across larger sentences.

It is possible. There is no real way to mod the game for people who are not a PoE dev though. If someone with enough talent was so inspired they could make an overlay that doesn't need to change the game at all, but that would just be insane work.

it's really not that bad there is a lot of japanese games/manga quickly fan translated using AI and then rewritten with some context of actually being a consumer of that media

it's the same if you hire a person who doesn't know PoE is my point. you would need a turkish guy who knows the game very well or many of them that want to do some pretty tedious work.

Honestly, it doesn’t take a big team to handle this translation. It’s been almost three years since the beta release, and we’re still only at version 0.3. Before the game reaches version 1.0, they could easily assign one person to translate the subtitles — or even use AI for it. I’m certain that our community would gladly help, and I could even do it myself. If they just give me the raw subtitles, I’ll provide the correct translations.
