Item design is already convoluted and obscure

One of the best things about PoE is its unique item design. There is a unique for almost everything. Many of them are intentionally designed to provide solutions to holes in, or leverage aspects of, the game systems. It's complex but logical, and so not overwhelming. The item abilities are for the most part straight forward. With rare exceptions, the complexity is empowering rather than confusing, and rewards game knowledge fairly.
PoE 2's item design in contrast is already so obscure and arcane it's prohibitive. The proliferation of idiosyncratic, weirdly obscure abilities on unique jewels and charms alone is headspinning. Where PoE's items feel reasonably contained within the constraints of existing systems, PoE 2's feel random and disconnected - as if bizarrely unrelated abilities were tossed into a hat and pulled out randomly to be thrown into the world without context or intention. The result, for me at least, is for it all to become meaningless and uninteresting when compared to PoE 1.
