[Accessibility & QoL] The Reforging Bench is physically painful. Literally.
I got in contact with support over this and they directed me to post this here in the forums.
Over the past few days, I've been thinking up how to word it properly to convey how serious this issue is, how many people this affects, and a possible solution to fix it that would be a net positive to the whole playerbase, even for those not affected by it. You see, I have a certain small issue in my right hand. If I stress it too much, it's painful. It doesn't affect playing normally. It doesn't affect my day-to-day. It doesn't act up too often. Only if I overdo certain repetitive tasks. But if I overdo it too much, it can become pretty intense. It's not a rare issue and many physical conditions or disabilities may suffer of a similar or maybe even worse situation. My case is even extremely light compared to others and it already affects me. For example, clicking to reforge an object and then holding CTRL and clicking to remove the reforged item from the bench, several times in a row, and then doing the same to add new items, and loop. And loop. And again... Aaand again...... The reforging bench is a great source of profit. A viable in-game "work" that provides income to early-stage players and valuable product for late stage players to purchase from them, recycling less desirable resources into more needed ones. Yet, with my issue, if I want to try doing it for currency, my hand will definitely hurt. Even for players who don't have this issue, there are other issues. -It forces you to stay in your hideout for a long time instead of actually playing the game. -It is extremely boring to do it even if there is a BIG financial incentive. It is a QoL nightmare. Yet, the easiest fix to the issue would be a bad one as it would break the game's economy. So with the little game design and somewhat extensive background as a game tester I have, I've been working on devising a solution I propose that solves the issue. It wouldn't be overly difficult or time intensive to program and introduce to the game, introduces a GREAT QoL to the whole player base AND doesn't affect the economy at all, as well as being a much bigger incentive for players to actually play the game instead of staying in their hideout for hours. It is extremely simple: Auto-Reforge Over Time. Instead of the Reforging Bench having three slots that each can take one stack of an item and reforging one unit at a time per click, it would have three slots that can take an unlimited quantity of a single item type. Clicking to reforge would start it with the option to cancel it midway. Every few seconds, for as long as the player is online, one unit would be reforged and deposited at an output box with several slots, since some items can be reforged to multiple possible results, all slots of this box with unlimited stack sizes for each output item type. Since each player only has a single reforging bench in their hideout, they would only be able to have one type of item reforging at a time. The time it takes for 1 unit of item to be reforged would be roughly the same as it takes now, possibly slightly slower, so it wouldn't really affect the economy. While items are reforging, players would have less incentive to stay in base and more incentive to go out and explore their Atlas. It would also completely remove any incentive for any player to possibly use third party software such as bots or scripts for AFK reforging, solving yet another issue. It completely removes the boredom of having to do a repetitive action multiple times and for people with issues like mine, where stressing their hand too much is physically painful, it removes the issue entirely. It would be a huge QoL to the community and accessibility update that is cheap and easy to be introduced, but fully fixing the biggest annoyance of the reforging bench.
