And it is soooooo much harder to get an 82 map nowadays...
After some time, when you are 94+ maps just feel so weak, even with the atlas points :/

In Poe1 the level cap is the same, however there are many ways to increase it. What we are currently missing is the old Atlas tree where we can properly buff our content. If we get it back there will be opportunities to scale the difficulty, but for now we are just testing a beta build with limited content features. Tbh 82 is great for a baseline, we just need more options to scale it, which are on the way for sure.

they could have just set the constant "MAX_MAP_LEVEL" to 18...balance is non existent anyway.

Why don't you apply for a job at GGG and change it, if it's so easy?

I think the real reason, like most design of the design philosophy in PoE, is Chris Wilson was a huge Diablo 2 fan and Diablo 2 had their max areas at monster level 85. So they just copied it without thinking to hard early in PoE1. But, before you know it, it sort of stuck as a feature and now it's been ported over to PoE2.
The irony is Blizzard North had areas all the way up to level 100 planned for their next expansion but it was never completed before the studio shutdown.

I've got a better paying dev job... Yes, it's as simple as changing a constant. I'm sure the stat calculator implementation is based on a mathematical formula. IF it's not, the hell are they doing in this industry?

Then send them a diff. Oh wait. You can't, because you don't know.
