Omen of Corruption vs Skill gems

Omen of Corruption demonstrates to not always cause a corruption effect on skill gems. Pictured gem consumed Omen of Corruption but did not gain or lose skill levels, quality or sockets. Unsure if vaal is rolling +1 to sockets to cause this. All gems I've encountered this issue with have been 5 socketed
